About this guide
Know the rules.
Find your footing.
Homeschool States brings state homeschooling requirements into one readable place: what to file, when to file it, what to teach, and which records or assessments are required.
Official sources come first
State guides draw on the source material listed at the bottom of each page, including statutes, education agency guidance, and official forms. Links take you to the original documents so you can check the details that apply to your family.
A date, not a guarantee
Each published guide shows a “Last verified” date from its data record. Rules and agency guidance can change after that date. Before withdrawing a child or filing paperwork, confirm the current requirements with the linked official source.
Only records marked verified are published. States without a published guide remain unlinked on the map and in the state directory.
Reading the map
The map displays the regulation category supplied with each state’s research: none, low, moderate, or high. These are editorial groupings, not legal classifications or judgments about the quality of homeschooling. Read a state’s actual requirements rather than relying on its color.
Gray means a guide is not yet published. It does not mean the state has no requirements.
